Bangladesh Engineering Delegation Visits Sydney

We were excited to host 11 senior engineers this week from the government of Bangladesh Local Government Engineering Department. The visit is part the Multipurpose Disaster Shelter Project which aims to construct 556 new evacuation centres in coastal areas through World Bank funding. During the meeting, we shared our current research and learned more about current disaster risk reduction efforts underway in Bangladesh. Topics of the meeting included coordination between the public and private sectors, community participation in post-disaster reconstruction, planning, designing, and constructing post-disaster shelters, as well as social and economic benefits of multi-purpose post-disaster evacuation centres.
